In June 2014, Earl Spencer was one of two guest speakers – along with the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom – at a luncheon held at Sulgrave Manor, the former home of George Washington’s ancestors.
This was an event to celebrate the purchase of Sulgrave Manor in 1914, by a committee including members of the Royal Family, the then American Ambassador, and the 6th Earl Spencer (the current Earl Spencer’s great-grandfather).
The Manor has been generously supported ever since by the National Society of the Colonial Dames. 120 Dames and their husbands travelled to Sulgrave Manor from the United States of America to be part of the centenary celebrations.
