The Althorp Estate was pleased to welcome the Webb Ellis Cup on Tuesday 18th August, 2015 as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour.
The tour saw the famous Webb Ellis Cup travel throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland before arriving at Twickenham Stadium, on 18 September, ahead of the opening ceremony. The Cup spent ten days in the East Midlands region, also visiting Northampton Saints Rugby Club and The Webb Ellis Rugby Football Museum in Rugby.
Rugby was at the very heart of the Trophy Tour schedule and, as part of the visit to Althorp, a tag rugby event took place on the front lawns involving eight local teams. The tag rugby teams, along with visiting members of the public, also took the opportunity to get up close to the historic trophy and have a photograph alongside it, with the magnificent Althorp House as the backdrop.
